1/28/2024 0 Comments Dragon quest viii map by level![]() Encountering them is quite rare, and they tend to flee the moment you engage them in battle. Enemies called Metal Slime are of particular interest in Dragon Quest VIII. Once you approach an enemy, you will engage it in battle. However, the game is overall very enjoyable and it has a very sweet ending that I thought was one of the better endings I have seen in a role playing game. In the 3DS version of Dragon Quest VIII, enemies lurking in dungeons are indicated by a symbol on the map. Then there is the music, which is not bad, but it is not varied enough for my tastes. The only complaints I have for the game is that getting money and upgrading your equipment can be a pain as is using the alchemy pot (though that has its pluses too). The fighting is turned based, nothing to complicated to pick up, you do have your special attacks and you can psyche yourself and make your attacks that much more effective. You sail the seas and soar through the skies, though not in the old standby airship. You even get to see a lovely winter land and a strange land with virtually no color. And some not so lovely as you will find out in the thieve's paradise of Pickham. During your adventures you will run across many fiends and many lovely locales. Most of the game you are tracking him in an attempt to break the curse, and along the way you meet two more allies in the form of the very lovely Jessica and Angelo a man who has a special place in his heart for the ladies. Who could have brought about such terror you ask, a strange magician clown that goes by the name Dhoulmagus. They are accompanied by a young man who was a guard at the castle and somehow escaped everyone else's fate of being turned to thorns and a thief they meet along the way named Yangus. In order to get to the Dragovian Trials, you need to first Zoom to Baccarat and then fly east for a bit. They are traveling to find a way to end the curse of themselves and their home, as the castle is now overrun with thorns. The best place to level grind seems to be Howlwind Hill (Slime Hill) near Rydon's Tower. The story has a king and his beautiful daughter cursed.he is now turned into a troll like creature and she, while still beautiful, is now a horse. In fact, the characters were designed by the guy who did DragonBall Z and it most certainly shows. That is what they did here as the game is just stunning to look at, it is like watching a very well done cartoon. I just think maybe this should not have been my first Dragon Quest. This game just proves you do not need to have computer generated film sequences in a game to make it good, instead why not just make the entire game a wonderful visual experience. ![]() The combat is great, the story is fun, and I really like the main 4 playable characters especially. I just think this game would be even better if those issues I had just, weren't there. ![]() Though even through all of that, I don't hate this game at all, and I still really liked it. Maybe I just had poor luck? I don't really know. ![]() Take the left path to a chest containing the Saint's Ashes. Follow the stairs down until you reach another branching pathway. It just became more frustrating than anything else, especially in late game where it feels like you have to try 2-3 times before a flee attempt is successful. Return up one level and take the other stairs this time. And especially with how common it seemed to run into battles with 5-7 enemies, I had to watch 5-7 enemies attack me before I can attempt to run away again. I also hate when you can fail running away from a fight, it's one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to JRPGs. It becomes far more annoying than it really should be. Sure, I did eventually switch to grinding on Metal Slimes, but then that gets into the luck of encountering them, hitting them, and then hoping they dont run away on the first turn, before you can even act. And even though you don't have to level grind often in this game, I did have to a couple times, and they took FOREVER. I love level grinding, but when grinding against regular enemies take like an hour just to gain a single level, it goes from fun repetitive action to long tedium. There's a whole lot here I think is really damn good.īut then it gets brought down by some really bad pet peeves I have with this genre of games. I love the skill points and upgrading skills to gain new abilities, and I like how it personalizes your journey. It's like this fun fantasy romp coming across a colorful cast of characters, solving problems and getting ever so close to the desired goal. While the game has world-ending stakes, it never really feels like it. I feel rather conflicted on this game as a whole.
